Vilniaus Pramogų arenoje vykusiame koncerte pirmieji savo muzikinę programą groti pradėjo rokeriai „Slade“. Šie vos užlipę ant scenos nesismulkino ir ėmė šaudyti geriausias savo dainas – „House down“, „Back ome“, o kolonėles draskė trečiuoji daina „Far far away“. Muzikantams pristačius ją daugelis melomanų ėmė švilpti, o keli jų net šoktelėjo iš džiaugsmo viršun. Tenka pripažinti – nors auditorija ir pasirodė skystoka, įrodė, jog „svarbu ne ūgis, o smūgis“. Šiuo atveju – garsi gerklė.
O užgrojus pirmiesiems romantiškos dainos „Everyday“ akordams publika su muzikantais traukė unisonu. Kuo daugiau dainų „Slade“ dainavo, tuo labiau publika įsisiūbavo.
Slade“ sumaišė Lietuvą su Latvija
Nors įsiaudrinę melomanai galbūt ir neatkreipė dėmesio, bet „Slade“ nenustojo maišę Lietuvos su Latvija. „ Latvija, Vilniau“, – sveikinosi su lietuvaičiais vienas „Slade“ narių. Tačiau atlikęs kelias dainas jis ir vėl prisiminė kurioje šalyje esąs ir šįkart neprašovė: „Lietuva, ar jau einate iš proto?“

Tiesa, nors blizgių apdarų ir platforminių aulinių batų, kaip senais gerais septyniasdešimtaisiais, Vilniuje jie ir nedėvėjo, liko ištikimi savo stiliui – odinės kelnės apspaudė muzikantų šlaunis, o pėdas papuošė blizgiais žvyneliais padabinti „convers“ stiliaus sportiniais bateliais.
Paskutinei dainai muzikantai pasirinko vieną garsiausių savo hitų, kalėdinę dainą „Merry Xmas Everybody“. Visi grupės nariai prieš dainą užsidėjo raudonas, Kalėdų Senelių kepures ir kartu su publika sudainavo šią dainą."

"Grupės "Slade" lyderis Dave’as Hillas sako, kad jau dabar džiaugiasi būsimąja kelione į Lietuvą. Kauno "Žalgirio" arenoje britų glamroko žvaigždės "Slade", "Sweet" ir Thomas Andersas su grupe (buvęs "Modern Talking" narys) koncertuos gruodžio 29 d.
Čia groti – vienas malonumas
Nors lietuvių draugų D.Hillas neturi, bet mūsų šalyje jis sakė jaučiąsis savas.
"Kai groji tokią muziką kaip mūsų, visi žmonės tampa draugais, nes jiems patinka, ką mes darome, jie pažįsta mus klausydamiesi mūsų grupės dainų. O tai yra ypatinga", – "Kauno dienai" sakė gitaristas.
Iš koncertų Baltijos šalyse jis teigė visuomet parsivežąs pačius geriausius įspūdžius. Tvirtino, kad čia groti visuomet vienas malonumas, kad žmonės, jo nuomone, čia labai entuziastingi.
"Kai išgirdau, kad važiuosime su šou į Lietuvą, ir būtent gruodį, buvau labai patenkintas, nes žinojau, kad puikiai praleisiu laiką jūsų šalyje", – džiaugėsi muzikantas.
Jis užsiminė, kad su juo galbūt atvyks ir žmona, su kuria susituokęs jau 40 metų. Abu užaugino tris vaikus, sulaukė anūkų.
"Sakiau žmonai: tu turėtum pamatyti šią šalį. Ji Lietuvoje dar niekuomet nebuvo. Ar vyks kartu, dar nežinau. Ji apie tai dar mąsto", – dėstė muzikantas.
Pati grupė atvyks visos sudėties: D. Hillas, gitaristas ir pritariantysis vokalistas, Malas McNulty's, vokalas, gitara, John'as Berry's, grojantis bosine gitara, smuiku ir yra pritariantysis vokalistas, būgnininkas Donas Powellas ir techninis personalas.
Prajuokino padėka
"Jūsų šalyje labai daug žmonių mėgsta roką, tad atėję į mūsų šou nepasigailės – jų laukia jaudinantis vakaras. Koncerte grosime geriausias ir visiems žinomas dainas", – anonsavo britas ir juokėsi, kad grupei net neprireiks dainuoti – už "Slade" tą puikiai padarys mintinai jų dainas mokantys žiūrovai.
Ar po paskutinio koncerto mūsų šalyje jis dar atsimena lietuviškų žodžių?
"Ne, nebeprisimenu, – neslėpė muzikantas ir pasinaudojo proga paklausti: – Kaip lietuviškai bus "ačiū"? "Ačiū." "Teisingai! Atsiminiau! Tai skamba kaip nusičiaudėti."
Jis pasakojo, kad paprastai kelių žodžių tos šalies, kurioje koncertuoja, su kolegomis organizatorių paprašo pamokyti prieš pat koncertą. Kalbėdamas D.Hillas lyg tarp kitko dar kartą pasikartojo išmoktą žodį.
"Ačiū", – ištarė ir vėl nusijuokė iš jo skambesio.
Iš naktinių klubų jau išaugo
D.Hillas sakė dar nežinąs, kur atvykę apsistos.
"Tą galėtų pasakyti mūsų vadybininkė, bet ne aš. Aš tuo nesirūpinu, – vėl nusikvatojo roko muzikantas. – Dažniausiai atvažiuojame dieną prieš koncertą. Pailsime, išeiname į miestą užkąsti, pareklamuoti savo koncertų, pasikalbėti su praeiviais. Man patinka apsižiūrėti, kur esame apsistoję."
Jis neslėpė mėgstantis bendrauti su gerbėjais. Ypač jį džiugina teigiami žmonių prisiminimai apie "Slade" muziką.
"Nemažai žmonių prieina ir pasakoja, kad su mūsų muzika užaugo, susituokė. Labai smagu išgirsti, kad mūsų muzika žmonėms kelia tokių teigiamų prisiminimų", – teigė D.Hillas.
Vis dėlto po koncerto vaikščiojantį po miestą vargu ar jį bus galima sutikti.
"Iš naktinių klubų jau išaugau. Iš karto grįšiu į viešbutį. Mėgstu ilsėtis. Tai yra svarbu", – aiškino britas.
"Slade" pasirodymas truks daugiau kaip valandą. Jo mėgstamiausi kūriniai – "My oh my", "Far far away" ir, žinoma, "Merry Christmas Everybody". Visus juos bus galima išgirsti ir koncerte Kaune.
"Mes ne tokie"
Paklaustas, ar pateikė organizatoriams kokių nors reikalavimų sąrašą, D.Hillas susimąstė.
"Ne, mes ne tokie. Ketiname mėgautis viešnage, o ne ieškoti priekabių. Mums nereikia specialių dalykų, specialaus maisto", – tikino muzikantas.
Jis juokdamasis pridūrė, kad visi galvoja, jog grupės "Slade" nariai gers degtinę.
"Bet aš labiau mėgstu vyną. Degtinė man per stipri", – sakė D. Hillas.
Jis patraukė pečiais paklaustas, ką mano apie lietuvišką muziką – nėra šios girdėjęs.
"Bet, manau, lietuviai kuria gerą muziką, nes jų geras skonis – klausosi mūsų", – šmaikštavo gitaristas, laisvalaikiu mėgstantis skaityti poeziją, sodininkauti, stebėti, kaip dvejų metų anūkas mokosi groti gitara.
"Slade" – jau 46-eri
1966-aisiais įkurta "Slade" yra daugiausia aštuntajame dešimtmetyje singlų D.Britanijoje pardavusi britų grupė. Populiariausi hitai – "Coz I Love You", "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", "Cum on Feel the Noize", "My Oh My", "Radio Wall of Sound" ir amžina Kalėdų daina "Merry Christmas Everybody".
"Vilniaus Pramogų arenoje penktadienio vakarą įjungta laiko mašina – nostalgiškai nusiteikusiems žiūrovams koncertą surengė praeities muzikos žvaigždės. Šiuo koncertu šventines gastroles per Lietuvą pradėjo britų roko veteranai „Slade“, „Sweet“ ir vokiečių dainininkas Thomas Andersas. Muzikantai lietuviams paruošė keturių valandų programą, prikimštą prieš kelis dešimtmečius radijo stočių eteryje karaliavusių hitų.

Pavydėtiną energiją demonstravęs 66-erių gitaristas D. Hillas grodamas vis šoko kažką panašaus į kankaną ir nuolat siuntė linkėjimus – tiesa, visai ne tos šalies, kurioje koncertavo, publikai.
„Latvija, kaip jūs laikotės? Smagu būti Latvijoje. Latvijos Vilnius – puikus miestas“, - publiką džiugino D. Hillas.
Kad Vilnius nėra toks jau latviškas miestas, gitaristui kažkas paaiškino tik „Slade“ pasirodymo pabaigoje. „Tiksliai, čia juk Lietuva. Atleiskite man“, - susigėdo iš Londono į Vilnių atskridęs ir valstybes supainiojęs muzikantas.
Maždaug dviems tūkstančiams žiūrovų ši klaida, regis, ne itin rūpėjo – senojo roko mėgėjai įsijautę kartu su grupe plėšė „Cuz I Luv You“, „My Oh My“, „Cum On Feel The Noize“, „Mama Weer All Crazee Now“ ir kitus iškraipytais angliškais žodžiais pavadintus hitus iš aštuntojo dešimtmečio. Jų pagalbos kartais prireikdavo ir „Slade“ dainininkui Malui McNulty, kuriam kiek sunkiai sekėsi tvarkytis su dainos „My Oh My“ melodija.
Netobulumus atpirko nuoširdumas. Pasirodymo pabaigoje „Slade“ pasipuošė Kalėdų Senelių kepurėmis ir sugrojo dainą, be kurios jos pasirodymai neapsieina net ir vidurvasarį – kalėdinį sveikinimą „Merry Xmas Everybody“.

„Tai – gal ir neįprastas sprendimas, bet įsitikinome, kad vyresnė publika, kuri mėgsta „Slade“, mielai klausosi ir šio atlikėjo“, - sakė koncerto rengėjas Remigijus Knabikas.
Jo žodžius patvirtino žiūrovų elgesys – po „Slade“ ir „Sweet“ pasirodymų niekas nesiskirstė.

A Slade story and "history" for the Boxing Day
26.12.2012 Ilpo: The morning of the Boxing Day was a bit cold (-19 degrees, and 70 cm of snow) here in Helsinki, and we decided to stay inside for a while. I found a nice Slade story in Malcolm Wyatt's blog, writewyattuk (and now a Finnish swing version of "Merry Xmas Everybody" by Tuomo Prättälä in the air on Radio Suomi):

Britų roko grupės „Slade” muzikantas Dave’as Hill’as jau dabar džiaugiasi laukiančia kelione į Lietuvą. Kauno „Žalgirio” arenoje aštuntojo dešimtmečio žvaigždės „Slade“, „Sweet“ bei Thom'as Anders'as (buvęs „Modern Talking“ narys) koncertuos gruodžio 29 dieną.

3.12.2012 UK Official charts: 80. (152.) Merry Christmas Everybody
"Merry Xmas Everybody ... Has entered the UK charts again this week at no 80 from last weeks no 152 ! And is sure to go higher next week. It has also entered the UK heritage chart at no 24 !
MXE also made the top 20 again on two occassions - in 1983 alongside "My Oh My" at no 2 and also in 2007 ... Long may it reign as the UK's most popular Xmas song! This is now it's 16th chart entry in the UK on its own merits. It's hard to believe that this song is 40 years old next Xmas. We will keep you all posted on its progress chart wise.
But lets not forget all the other great tunes sung by this band. Including this new entry Slade have achieved a total of 305 weeks on the UK singles chart so far in their career - including 20 weeks at no 1 with 6 singles - 3 going straight to no 1 on its first week of release. Also 4 no 2 singles and 16 top ten singles - 12 of those being top 5 ! You must agree this is a gigantic achievement.
The Slade single with the longest chart time was "Coz I Luv You" Slade's 1st no 1 - staying in the UK charts for 15 weeks - 4 of those at no 1. But did you know that Slade's 2nd biggest chart stay was with "Get Down And Get With It" - Slade's 1st chart single reaching only no 16 but staying in the UK charts for an amazing 14 weeks in 1971.
Lets also not forget the Slade albums! 3 x l.p's to reach no 1 with a 8 week stay at no 1. Also a total album chart stay of 216 weeks with "Slade Alive" released in 1972 staying in the chart for an amazing 58 weeks."

"Slade Night BBC4 21st December 2012. Some say it just isn't Christmas without Slade, for Slade fans, Slade are for life and not just Christmas. One man's personal crusade over many years has resulted in BBC4 giving over a major part of their prime time schedule to the band in homage to the most underrated English band of all time. The evening kicks off at 9 pm with a repeat showing of the 1999 documentary 'It's Slade' followed by a Noddy Holder hosted video fest featuring archive clips featuring ... "
"Back in January 2011 I went to see Styx in West Wendover, NV. Right before Styx sang “Come Sail Away”, Lawrence Gowan, keyboardist and lead singer for Styx from 1999 onward, decided to give the audience a short quiz. He yelled out “Sweet Home Alabama” the audience shouted back “Lynyrd Skynrd”. Then he shouted out “Smoke on the Water” and the crowd shouted back “Deep Purple”. Then he shouted out “Cum On Feel the Noize” and the crowd shouted back “Quiet Riot”. Then Lawrence shouts back “Wrong! It’s Slade!” As much as I love Quiet Riot’s version of “Cum on Feel the Noize”, I yelled back “Hell Yes! Slade!” and Lawrence smiled back at me. I love the band Slade and I’m a huge fan which is exceptionally rare here in the United States.
My father discovered Slade via some exceptionally rare radio play in Salt Lake City back in 1972 back when FM was commercial free and played a lot of different and experimental music. He bought the album Slayed? and really enjoyed it, but by the time I was born he had not listened to it in years and it collected dust in his record collection…lying in wait for me to eventually uncover.
When my family got cable television for the very first time in 1986 I was watching MTV and they played the video for “Run Runaway” and I don’t know what it is, but the song just really blew me away. I had never heard anything like it in my life and Noddy Holder had by far one of the most unique voices to ever come out of rock and roll. Forgiving the fact that the music video is considered kind of cheesy by today’s standards, I thought “Run Runaway” was the coolest thing I had ever heard in my life and is Slade’s only top 20 hit in the United States (it literally peaked at #20) and at this point in time just seeing this music video on MTV was really rare. I wanted to buy a cassette of Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply (the American version of the album The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome) really bad, but at least in Salt Lake County forgiving the fact that the album was still in print at that point, it was still really hard to find. In the meantime I used to call the request line for KRSP/Rock 103 every couple of months requesting “Run Runaway” and every once in a while I’d be lucky enough to hear it.
I was at the record store with my Dad in 1990 and I was looking through Slayer’s section and lo and behold there was a tape of Slade’s Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply mixed in with Slayer. I bought it immediately forgiving the fact that I only knew one song on the tape mainly because I knew if I did not buy it that day I would never see this tape again. I will never forget the first time I listened to this tape at 4:30am while throwing my paper route. It completely took me by surprise. The album opens with “Run Runaway” the full version (I had only heard the radio/video edit version) and a song I already thought was pretty cool became in cooler. The power ballad “My Oh My” was way cool as well. However, where the tape really won me over was on side 2 with the songs “Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply”, “Cheap and Nasty Luv”, and “Can’t Tame a Hurricane”. I know Slade did not intend these three songs as a suite, but I view them that way and they just kick serious butt. At age 13 I felt like I had discovered one of the greatest bands ever. Eventually, when I was going through by Dad’s records I discovered the album Slayed? which features “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” and “Gudbuy T’Jane” and I fell in love with that album as well (I copied it to cassette so I could listen to it on my paper route).

Slade, forgiving the fact that most Americans have either never heard of them or the few that have view them as a one hit wonder, they are one of the most influential bands in the history of Rock and Roll.
Slade was a huge influence for the band Kiss and to quote Gene Simmons "Slade was certainly our greatest influence; not only in the crafting of rock songs but also as performers. Before Slade, no one really knew @#$! about how to make an audience riot. We really got off on that. There would probably never have been us without them."

They were also one of Joey Ramone’s (lead singer and founder of The Ramones) favorite bands, and he said "I spent most of the early 70s listening to Slade Alive! thinking to myself, "Wow - this is what I want to do. I want to make that kind of intensity for myself. A couple of years later I was at CBGB's doing my best Noddy Holder."
The one and only Alice Cooper once said "Slade was the coolest band in England. They were the kind of guys that would push your car out of a ditch."

In addition, Nirvana, The Sex Pistols, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, Queen, and countless other bands were very much influenced by Slade. As much as Slade never had the success in the United States as they did elsewhere, their influence as a band was very clearly felt by many established and aspiring musicians in the United States and all over the world.
About ten years ago I was walking through Fashion Place mall in Murray, Utah doing some Christmas shopping and over the P.A. I heard Slade’s “Merry Xmas Everybody” and I sang with it out loud was I was shopping. Frankly, I was just thrilled to hear a Slade song on the radio. However, since this day 10 years ago once malls and Salt Lake City radio start to play Christmas music this song is always in the rotation. I think it is way awesome that at least during the holiday season in America even Americans are listening to a great Slade song.
On a personal note, when I grew up there were a lot of bands I loved that thankfully many of my friends were into as well, but I stood alone on Slade. In my opinion they are the perfect balance between full throttle, straight up heavy rock and roll and pop music styling’s. Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply was their brief moment of success in the United States, but thankfully this moment lasted long enough that I was able to discover and really enjoy Slade’s music. When I joined Facebook back in 2008 one of the first people to friend me was a good friend of mine from middle and high school and the very first thing he posted on my wall was “I heard Quiet Riot’s “Cum On Feel the Noize” the other day and I remembered how much you loved Slade” so I guess I rubbed off on my friends a little bit. Slade in my opinion should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but again because American audiences just did not embrace Slade at all I know it will never happen, but their contribution to Rock and Roll is very significant. I could not be happier to be one of the rare American Slade fans, but on the plus side based on the rock star quotes from earlier, I am in good company."
