My oh My", kterou si zazpívali všichni přítomní.

Muzikanti pak předvedli show s přehlídkou svých největších hitů. Obecenstvo si vyžádalo přídavky, takže zazněla i „klasika" jako My Oh My či Mama Weer All Crazee Now."

Mezi ty největší hity patří například Far Far Away, My Oh My, Run Runaway a další.

Koncert samozřejmě umocní světelná show a zvuk o síle.

Specifické požadavky má kapela i ohledně pitného režimu, například vyžaduje pouze čepované pivo, láhev značky Jack Daniels a své oblíbené typy vína. „Musíme zdůraznit, že oproti jiným srovnatelným světovým kapelám jsou velice skromní," dodal Martin Hradečný.

Krnovský Kofola music club v lednu oslaví deset let své existence, a Slade bude něco jako předčasný dárek k narozeninám. Během desetileté kariéry v klubu vystoupilo na sedm set kapel, 25 divadelních souborů a nespočet různých dýdžejů. Sál Kofoly zažil i nejrůznější večírky a spoustu dalších akcí.

Slade remembered by Dennis Munday, Polydor

http://zani.co.uk/slade-remembered-by-dennis-munday

"When I started work at Polydor in the early '70's, it was a dream come true... Laurie Adams, who was Polydor's Tape Marketing Manager, turned up unexpectedly and took me out to lunch. At the end, he offered me a job working as his assistant (dogsbody).

...
At the time, Polydor's big sellers were The Osmond's, The New Seekers, and James Last. .. There was also another big band from Wolverhampton, called Slade, who were having hit after hit on the red label.

In 1973, Polydor released the single, 'Merry Christmas Everybody', which went platinum and kept us all in a job for another year. The same year, Polydor also released Sladest, which was a greatest hits album, and this went straight to No. 1 on the charts.

...

Another problem occurred when Dave Hill decided to take his gold disc out of the frame and play it, just to see if you could actually hear the music. He also may have noticed that there were six tracks on his gold disc, when the LP of Sladest, had five tracks on either side. When he played the album it turned out be a different band's record. Evidently, the factory had run out of stock and pressed another band's record with Sladest labels. The band did see the funny side of it, though, there were a few red faced exec's walking around.

...

I went to see Slade a few times, once at Earl's Court and I have to say, they were a good live band. They played to their audience and made sure everyone had a good time...

The next time, they were on the bill at the Donnington Park Monsters Of Rock festival, on 22 August 1981. AC/DC were the headliners and the other bands included, Blue Oyster Cult, Whitesnake, Black Oak Arkansas, and Blackfoot...

As I had an 'All Areas' pass, I watched most of the bands from the stage, or I wandered about the VIP area. For the latter half of Slade's set, I joined the great unwashed and watched from out front. When they appeared, they really rocked the festival audience and they finished their set with 'Merry Xmas Everybody', which had everyone singing along to a Christmas song, on a summer's afternoon.

...

There was a question I wanted to ask him about Slade and this was just the opportunity. I noticed that whenever I played a Slade 45rpm, the sound levels were higher than all the other singles'. I asked how he managed this and he replied.

"When I was recording the band, I'd put gaffa tape over the VU meters, which pissed off the engineers, as they couldn't see what levels were going down on to the tape. Then, I would tell them how loud I wanted it. They didn't like it, but that's how I got the Slade sound."

I have to say Chas Chandler was Gent, and one of the few that I met in the record business. There was no side to him, and he didn't boast about his achievements; then he didn't have too, his achievements said it all. Slade were down to earth and honest, and it's a real shame there's not more bands around like them, as you won't find this kind of honesty in the record business these days; mores the pity."

"Slade's Dave Hill backs Ricoh's guitar world record bid"

Coventry Observer 15.10.2012:

HUNDREDS of guitarists were at the Ricoh on Sunday to try to break a world record - with the help of Slade's Dave Hill.

Dave joined guitarists as young as six-years-old as they played rifts from Smoke On The Water, Whole Lotta Love and Alright Now backed by tribute band Hats Off To Led Zeppelin.

Danish ace guitarist Soren Anderson had led a warm up ahead of the attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest electric guitar ensemble.

Money raised on the day was donated to ChildLine.

Organiser Nigel Dutton said: "We won’t know yet for a while if we’ve broken the record but it certainly was a world record for the largest number of electric guitarists assembled playing the same songs."

Dave Hill at the Childline Rocks’ Guitar Challenge for a Guinness World Record, Coventry Ricoh Arena 14.10.2012

Andres Guitar Academy:

"Continuing the Countdown to The October Show… some students took part in a special one of a kind Music event at the Ricoh arena.

Nearly 3 months after the 2012 Olympics started at the renamed Coventry Stadium – once again the Ricoh arena back to its old name was the venue for an a guiness book of records attempt of a musical kind – the most number fo simultaneous electric Guitarists playing all together.

Dave Hill from Slade was master of ceremonies – and while it will be some time before the Guiness Book of records officals decide whether the record has been broken – this was a great opportunity for many guitar players and many students to get the chance to take part in this one of a kind event, and in doing so support the ChildLine charity that were raising funds – and also get some more experience playing live – something that some will be doing for the very first time at the upcoming October Student Show."

Guitarists in amplifier world record bid at Ricoh Arena

BBC News 14.10.2012:

Slade (Dave Hill is central guitarist)
Slade rose to fame during the glam rock era of the early 1970s

Hundreds of guitarists joined Slade musician Dave Hill in an attempt to break a guitar world record.

The event at Coventry's Ricoh Arena raised money for Childline.

Guitarists at Childline Rocks aimed to beat the record for the most guitar amplifiers used simultaneously.

Hill, lead guitarist and backing vocalist with the Wolverhampton glam rock band, said before the task the resulting sound would be interesting.

He said: "I imagine there will be one or two people doubling up on one amplifier, so I think it's going to be quite a melay or cacophony, as they say, of sound... I am just interested to know what tune they are going to be playing!"

Hill said he had never been involved in a record-breaking bid, but Slade's drummer had done something similar.

"I know our drummer Don Powell had been in the 'largest ensemble of drummers' and they all had to play one particular beat to a certain record and Don Powell was so loud that some of the drummers had to move away from him," Hill said.

Steve Whalley joins Sad Cafe

"Steve Whalley will be sharing lead vocals and playing guitar in the band. Sad Café could never replace Paul Young and in appointing Steve they have added a new dimension to the band whilst retaining the sheer quality that was the heart of Paul’s performance. Steve is a gifted singer, writer and performer in his own right and has an eclectic résumé. Steve and Ian had a band called Greasy Bear, renowned for their live performances, way back in the late 60s and have remained close friends ever since. Steve has appeared on the main stage at Glastonbury four times, he was Slade’s choice to takeover as lead vocalist when Noddy Holder retired and he was the choice to be lead vocalist in the promotion for the “James Burton signature” series of the Fender Telecaster in a band that had Sir Cliff Richard on backing vocals. Both Slade and Sad Café had hits with songs called “My Oh My” but there should be no confusion: Steve Whalley is the new vocalist with Sad Café."
