Quiet Riot ei missään nimessä olisi halunnut uransa suurinta hittiään Slade-coverista vuodelta 1973.
Losangesilainen metalliyhtye yritti tehdä kaikkensa, että biisistä tulisi heidän huonoin levyttämänsä.
Kun tuottaja tarjosi kappaletta, laulaja Kevin DuBrow ilmaisi vihaavansa kappaletta. Hän ja rumpali Frankie Banali yrittivät sabotoida kappaleen niin, ettei sitä koskaan julkaistaisi.
Quiet Riot ei harjoitellut kappaletta ollenkaan, Banali keksi päästään rumpukuvioita ja DuBrow yritti kiekua mahdollisimman ohi nuotin. Ja mitä kävikään?
Vuonna 1983 Metal Health -albumilla julkaistusta kappaleesta tuli megamenestys.
Albumi myi 6 miljoonaa kappaletta, ja oli ensimmäinen heavy metal -levy Billboardin listaykkösenä."

The iconic group, who rose to fame during the glam rock era of the early 1970’s, will be performing at the Princess Theatre in Torquay on Thursday 22 November.
Cited as an influence by the likes of Nirvana, Sex Pistols and The Clash, Slade are perhaps best known their best selling single ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, which has sold in excess of one million copies.

I blame Slade. They were never the subtlest of groups. Some of their outfits, as displayed on Seventies editions of Top Of The Pops, had my parents shaking their heads in bewilderment. And, of course, once I heard Noddy Holder speak, they came to represent Birmingham for me: loud, garish, lacking in finesse; a city built on overly large platforms (think Spaghetti Junction).

Well, as far as I can remember, Slade never cracked America, and as I walk from the impressive Brindley Place, I listen out for American accents. None. Perhaps the message isn’t getting out there yet. Or maybe I need to join the throngs of shoppers at the Bullring shopping centre to find the New Yorkers.
They could be milling through the designer stores, along with all the other thousands of consumers. After all, it does boast a huge turnover of shoppers – in 2003 it was the busiest shopping centre in Britain, with more than 36.5 million visitors.
So, perhaps Birmingham needs to shout about itself a bit more. “Cum on feel the noize!”
Slade are going to make a UK tour with Sweet in November and December 2012. After Christmas they have got four concerts in Lithuania.
ITV programme - The Nation's Favourite No.1 Single
Slade are to be featured in the forthcoming ITV show The Nation's Favourite Number 1 Single.
