Slade in Vilna 28.12.2012 Vilniuje „Slade“ demonstravo bicepsus ir sveikinosi su Latvija Delfi:
"Sostinės Pramogų arenoje penktadienio vakarą naujametinį koncertinį turą po didžiuosius Lietuvos miestus pradėjo praėjusio amžiaus roko veteranai „Sweet“ bei „Slade“ ir buvusios vokiečių pop grupės „Modern Talking“ narys Thomas Andersas.
Prieš 45-erius metus susikūrę kolektyvai Lietuvoje vieši ne pirmą kartą. Retas lietuvis turėjo progos gyvai išgirsti šių praėjusio amžiaus žvaigždžių pasirodymus, kai jie buvo pačiame populiarumo zenite. Todėl sostinėje gyvenantys jų gerbėjai pasinaudojo galimybe gyvai išgirsti kadaise pasaulį po kojomis parklupdžiusių grupių hitus, kuriuos beveik prieš pusę amžiaus visa gerkle traukė maištaujantys ilgaplaukiai jaunuoliai.
Demonstravo bicepsus
Pirmieji į Vilniaus Pramogų arenos sceną lipo britų roko veteranai „Slade“. Tiesa, koncertavo gerokai pavėlavę. Žiūrovai daugiau nei pusvalandį arenos koridoriuose laukė, kol bus įleisti į salę, kurioje tuo metu dar repetavo roko veteranai. Todėl tik patekusi į salę, publika plojo, švilpė ir kitaip demonstravo savo nekantrumą išvysti ilgai lauktas žvaigždes. "Slade" nariams teko nelengva užduotis - apšildyti sužvarbusią publiką. Tačiau su tokiais hitais, kaip "Fa Far Away", "My Oh My", "Cum on Feel the Noize" ar "Merry Christmas Everybody", roko veteranams ilgai vargti nereikėjo. Scenoje į septintąją dešimtį įžengę muzikantai galbūt ir "neištraukė" tokių natų, kaip jaunystėje, tačiau rokeriškos dvasios turėjo su kaupu. Vienas grupės įkūrėjų, gitaristas Davidas Hillas demonstravo savo bicepsus bei energingai šėliojo scenoje.
Sumaišė su Latvija
O štai grupėje nuo 2005-ųjų grojantis vokalistas Malas McNulty, dėl naujametinių koncertų gausos, ko gero, susimaišė ir paragino Latviją aktyviau dainuoti. "Nagi, Latvija, Vilniau", - nuo scenos ragino "Slade" narys. Po kelių dainų atlikėjas turbūt prisiminė ir pasitaisė: "Lietuva, Vilniau, ar einate iš proto?"
Užkulisiuose - kuklus vakarėlis
Septintojo dešimtmečio pabaigoje susikūrę "Slade" įkvėpė gausybę šių laikų grupių. Jų dainas savo koncertuose atlieka nuo „Kiss“ iki „Oasis“ ar netgi lyriškojo James Blunto. Kadaise dėl orgijų, laukinių vakarėlių ir nuolat keičiamų merginų garsėję „Slade“ vyrukai per tiek metų, panašu, jau pavargo nuo linksmybių. Visą savo energiją scenoje paliekantys britai po pasirodymų skuba tiesiai į viešbučius.
Renginį organizuojančios agentūros „Medusa Concert“ atstovė Marija Tarasova DELFI sakė, kad grupės savo persirengimo kambariuose pageidavo nedaug alkoholinių gėrimų. Po vieną butelį degtinės, viskio, šampano, poros butelių vyno ir daug gaiviųjų gėrimų."

But that would be to miss the point of a show giving unfussy fans of a certain age excuse to sing along to abundant hits of their youth.

Slade mustered twice as many original members – this being the model toured by flamboyant guitarist Dave Hill and drummer Don Powell since 1993. Mal McNulty’s raspy voice was more Brian Johnson than Noddy Holder, but carried the chorus-heavy canon well enough.
Fun-sized guitarist Hill remains a bundle of energy at 66: he hopped and high-kicked his way – all the more impressive in PVC trousers – through iconic numbers aplenty from Coz I Luv You to Cum On Feel The Noiz.
It being that time of year, this could only end one way: Santa hats on and arms slung around companions’ shoulders for Merry Xmas Everybody."
"GLAM rock still rocks, even if the glam has given way to Gothic chains and all things black and metallic, and mama, we're all getting on a bit now.
But the beat goes on, reaching a thrilling crescendo over the course of two stompingly good hours in the company of two of the greatest bands of their day.
Sweet and Slade electrified the Town Hall in a fashion that only genuinely gifted outfits can, resolutely showing today's generations of one-hit wonders and talent show wannabes how it's done.
Once fierce rivals, here they were on the same bill, a double-barrelled broadside that took us bak 'ome to the good old days of the 1970s, when I was a downy-faced teenager just getting into pop. While the crowd followed Slade, I banged the drum for Sweet, enduring no end of flak from progressives. I've matured a bit since then, but the songs of both bands are evergreen, and tonight's nostalgiafest showcased the evidence.
Of the original Sweet line-up, only Andy Scott remains, whilst on the Slade horizon Don Powell and Dave Hill survive, all three instantly recognisable, their stars still shining brightly.

Slade stormed in with We'll Bring The House Down – and they did, though Sweet had certainly helped pave the way. The multi-generation audience was in fine choral voice during Everyday and we all swung together for My Oh My, though, for my money, nothing beats the sheer poetry of my favourite Slade song Far, Far Away.
We got down and got with it, we felt the noize – hardly surprising, given those two giant speaker stacks. While lead singer Mal McNulty provided a solid anchor, vocally sounding remarkably like Noddy Holder, it was supreme showman Dave Hill who made a characteristically flamboyant M.C., at one stage bringing out the original Superyob guitar, its fretboard studded with illuminated blue markers.
Through it all, he showed why he, and Andy Scott, belong in the pantheon of guitar greats, and both bands' communion with the audience was warm and strong.
In the end it was a case of stick on the Santa hats, all join hands and round it off with the immortal Merry Christmas Everybody.
The future has still only just begun, albeit with a torrential downpour. Ah, well, but the rain came too late to dampen any spirits. Dave Hill summed everything up when reflecting on the past four decades of gold-plated music, and I know he spoke for both bands: "Let's hope it lasts forever!" This much is certain: it will long outlive most of the manufactured tripe of more recent times.
Quality lasts. This was one blockbuster of an evening - thanks for it all."
"THIS spring week in 1982 the Post's chief music critic James Belsey took himself off to the Colston Hall to see singer/songwriter Judie Tzuke, then on a gruelling 57-date tour which culminated in an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival...

...But if you wanted to really "Feel the Noize" then nothing could beat Noddy Holder and the rest of Slade, on stage at the Colston Hall earlier in the week.
"Although their releases are no longer zooming straight to the top of the charts, as they once did, Slade have lost none of that sparkle and professionalism which made them such stars in the 1970s" wrote the Post's Tina Moran.
There was certainly no shortage of hits for the band to choose from as they rocked and rolled their way through the evening – their last performance in a two-week national tour.
For the youngsters in the audience who may not have been around in the 1970s Slade played a number of golden oldies.
In between came songs from the band's latest album, Till Deaf Us Do Part, an appropriate enough title given that Slade seemed intent on breaking the sound barrier.
On stage Noddy, Dave and the gang appeared much the same as they did a decade ago.
But last night's performance, in front of a packed house, proved that the band have still got whatever it takes to withstand the test of time.
As such marvellous musicians, who have also proved themselves to be great showmen, Slade just cannot fail to keep on bringing the house down for many years to come."

"For some people the music of the early 70s will be forever glam. Some of it bubble-gum, some of it now remembered for other, ahem, “Glitter-y” reasons and others now classics. ...
Slade now include only Dave Hill and Don Powell from the original line-up but it is clear that the fans tonight hold them both very close to their hearts. Dave still does his “Super Yob” routine which goes down well with the Slade supporters (and still kind of winds me up a bit – such a great guitarist doesn’t need all that shtick), Don hits the drums as hard as he does in that performance on Saturday Night Live and the others? They work well with Don and Dave to produce a set that gets the crowd moving. My personal favourties were the 80s hits but I will always have a jingle bell sprinkled, be-tinselled place in my heart for “That Christmas Song”….and, yes, of course they played it – opening the door to the time machine and taking me back to those Christmases when I first wanted a guitar."

With three original members across the two bands there will always be naysayers who refuse to accept that an evening of Slade and Sweet music in 2012 can be anything other than a tribute show. Here at Midlands Rocks we are not averse to the idea of classic acts with revamped line-ups and the original member quotafor both of these 70′s glam rock legends compares favourably with the current touring incarnations of Blackfoot, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and Guns N Roses amongst others.
The Alexis a real throwback to the era of the Victorian music hall; snug seating, ice-creams at the interval and well dressed ushers being very much part of the scenery. Arguably not the most suitable environment for a gig but the audience carry on regardless and get down and get down with it from the time Sweet hit the stage at 7.30 until Slade finish some two and half hours later.
Havingbeen popular on the continent for almost two decades, the Dave Hill and Don Powell led Slade line-up are now being more warmly accepted at home – the current tour being in more sizeable venues than they have previously enjoyed. With no prospect of Noddy Holder or Jim Lea returning to the fold this will be the closest many of us will get to witnessing Slade in all of their glory. Frontman Mal McNulty has been with the band since 2005 and the line-up is completed by John Berry on bass and violin who has been there for a decade. Also allotted just over an hour Powell kick-starts the set with the tub-thumping intro to ‘We’ll Bring The House Down’ and they are off and running. Unlike Sweet, Slade adopt a more authentic approach with McNulty’s vocals offering a fair imitation of Noddy’s unmistakable raucous howl. Hill takes centre stage in his platform boots and still plays the role of SuperYob to perfection, constantly urging the crowd to participate and he remains an engaging showman. Slade enjoyed their Second Coming in the 80′s, being embraced by a metal audience, and away from the gimmicks Hill proved himself a damn fine guitarist – ably demonstrated as they tear through ‘Take Me Bak Ome’, ‘Coz I LuvYou’, ‘Run Runaway’ and ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’. Where Slade in 2012 doesn’t work as effectively is during the more subtle moments in the back catalogue, ‘Everyday’, ‘Far Far Away’ and ‘My Oh My’ makes you yearn for the presence of Holder, surely one of rocks greatest ever frontmen. They recover for the rousing finale of ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’ and the song that we will hear adinfinitum over the next few weeks to remind everyone what time of year it is, just in case the presence of the German Market isn’t enough.
This was an evening that gave everyone the opportunity to sing-a-long with songs we have known for all of our lives and no one will have left disappointed. The music was far from soothing but everybody started grooving!

"When I was in school there was only one band that you were proud to say that you had seen play live. It was Slade. This was before they became a joke. It was before you dared not admit you liked Slade. Before their records were remaindered in Woolies. It was before Noddy left to go to be an actor in The Grimleys. It was even before Slade became a household name, part of our national heritage and glam-rock heroes. It was before they gave us their Christmas number one. It was when they were known for just one thing – for being the best hard rock act around.
In those days, at school, things were divided into two musical camps: One lot liked hippy stuff. They liked Yes, Pink Floyd and Tyrannosaurus Rex (not T. Rex.) This lot went around in hippy clothes such as loon pants, cheese-cloth shirts and old trench coats. They said “Peace” a lot. The other camp – the ones that adults called “Skinheads” (point of order – we just called them “Skins”) had short hair, wore boots, and liked Slade. This was before punk. It was before 2-tone. It was long before ‘Madness.’ The only thing that the skins could call their own kind of music was Dave and Ansell Collins. And Slade.
Slade came out of the Black Country in 1971 with “Get Down and Get With It”. And with it came boot stomping rock ‘n’ roll heaven. That song was originally recorded by Little Richard for the “Okeh Sessions” . And it gave everyone a chance to get their boots on and stamp their feet.
The Slade boys – drummer Don Powell, guitarist Dave Hill, singer Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea were raised on fine music – such as John Lee Hooker and Howlin’ Wolf. They had played support slots for bands such as The Yardbirds (fore runners of Led Zeppelin.) In 1971 it was their chance to take centre stage.

Little Richard Get Down and Get With It
ut, when Chas Chandler (former manager of Jimi Hendrix), came into possession of the brand, and began to drive the musicians towards success, things began to get out of hand. After the successful – and much-loved single “Coz I Luv You” (written by Lea and Holder) we then got a flurry of misspelled pop songs like “Take Me Bak ‘Ome” and “Look Wot You Dun”. And Slade gradually became a ‘Glam Band’ I always thought that they seemed reluctant to go down the glam-rock path. Well, except for Dave, that is. His glitter wig and super-yob guitar can never be forgotten. The story goes that, after an altercation in the dressing room on Top of the Pops – when Jim once again criticised Dave for wearing a tin foil jumpsuit – Dave allegedly responded to the criticism by saying “You write ‘em Jim, and I’ll sell em !”
Looking back at the early 1970’s (and in light of the Jimmy Savile allegations) I sometimes get a feeling of nausea – rather than nostalgia about the times. This was the era that brought us Gary Glitter and “Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)” with the “Do you wanna touch me there, where?” lyric. It was addressed to little girls. And little boys. And I also remember Sweet’s ‘Little Willy’ (You can’t push Willy round, Willy won’t go.) And just knew that Mary Whitehouse would write in about it.
So when Slade played live at the Anvil Basingstoke this week, it was probably reasonable to exclude “Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me” from the set list. And thinking about this reminds me that my favourite song by Slade was “Gudbuy T ‘Jane” and it was kept from the No 1 slot by the innuendo laden Chuck Berry hit “My Ding-a-Ling.” (Which Mary did complain about.)

At the Anvil, the band worked their way through a series of ‘Crazee’ rock numbers – and they had the audience up and dancing almost immediately. Just like the old days. Everyone was standing. Everyone was stomping . Best songs in the show were, for my money, the excellent “Everyday” (I forgot how good that number was) and the Celtic sounding song “Run Runaway”.
I missed “Far Far Away” and I really liked “Nobody’s Fool” back in 1976. But that was forgotten too. But we still got “Mama Weer All Crazee Now”. Thank goodness.
Dave Hill still haunts the stage with that silly smile of his. Trying to boot things. Still being the class clown. And Don still looks as menacing as he ever has been. Mal actually sounds like Noddy. And that must be a hard act to follow. And John played a passable violin solo on “Coz I Luv You” – but it was not as good as Jim Lea. Their performance was exhilarating. Strong, heavy and full of fun. Just like a Slade show should be.
Some of these old bands become shadows of themselves. They sometimes become affectionate cover bands. Of their own music. But Slade have not crumbled. They are still full of energy. It’s encouraging. They really know how to perform. And they are loud. That’s why they brought the house down at the Reading Festival in 1980.
And before the curtain call at The Anvil, Dave came out on stage to thank the audience. “It was not a bad year that?” He chirped. “It’s been good hasn’t it?” Everyone agreed and clapped some more. Party hats were rushed on by roadies. And the group got back on stage. And they played “Merry Xmas Everybody”.
Before the concert, I was thinking about that song. And I was hoping that they would not play it. But they did. And do you know what? It brought a tear to my eye."

Sunday evening 4.11.2012 and we are just back in Helsinki from Sweden from Slade's wild, wild gig in Hotell Södra Berget in Sundsvall on Saturday night 3rd November 2012. Heard amongst other classics "Take Me Bak Ome" and saw Swedes goin' crazee, and being carried out from the stage. Here's just a few pics from Sundsvall, more to come tomorrow on Monday 5.11.2012.

Slade at Hotell Södra Berget in Sundsvall
Moni and me (Ilpo) started our travel to Slade concert from Helsinki on Friday evening and flew via Arlanda (Stockholm's airport) to Sundsvall/Härnösand and took a taxi to Sundsvall's Centrum. The taxi-driver knew Slade well.
On Saturday forenoon we made a walk in the Centrum and attached a few ads for the Slade concert. We couldn't see any advertisements there.
In the afternoon I made my first "Hill" show by running 4 kilometers up the hill (20 minutes). A huge view over the Sundsvall and the surroundings yielded from the top of Södra Berget. At 3pm Slade hadn't arrived yet in Hotell Södra Berget, so I ran down the hill (15 minutes) back to our Lilla Hotellet.
At 6pm we made the next Hill show by walking to Södra Berget. In the hotel we met first Slade's roadies Rob and Tim and gave them our "Slade August-October pics and videos" CDs to be taken to the band and Abbie & the crew.
A moment later we ran into Don and had a short chat with him. Then we had a light meal in the restaurant at 240 meters high over the sea.
At 8:30pm we went to the doors of the hall and waited to be let in. Dave Hill came shortly and and we had again a very happy meeting with him. Dave went soon into the dressing rooms, and we got into the hall at 8:40pm.
The hall was soon full of very enthusiastic (and drunken) Slade fans, maybe about 1000 people.
5-4-3-2-1 Slade are go
At 9pm Slade walked on stage and the third "Hill & Co" show started with the usual set list. There was a 5 meter broad area between the stage and sitting rows. This area was soon occupied by a jolly good Swedish fellows and good time gals.
A couple of the good time gals were even a bit too wild and one jumped on the stage to be carried away very quickly by Tim. She was soon back in the front row, but her friend followed her and jumped onto the stage getting the same treatment as her friend.
But the show went on on the stage without interrupts and the extra guests didn't seem to bother the BOYZ too much.
Merry Xmas on the All Saints' Day
There was a really good atmosphere on the both sides of the stage, and the Swedes were dancing and singing especially in front of the stage. Not any surprises on my 46th Slade (II) gig, but this time John didn't take over the vocals on 'Everyday'.
After the three encores "My Oh My", "Cum On Feel The Noize" and "Merry Xmas Everybody" the show and Slade's three days mini-tour in Sweden was over.
We gathered still some Slade stuff and then headed back to the Centrum and on Sunday evening at 6pm after our 48 hours travel landed in Helsinki.

"Slade on varsinainen keikkajuhta, joka on toiminut jo 1960-luvun lopulta lähtien. Mukana on edelleen kaksi neljästä perustajajäsenestä: kitaristi-laulaja Dave Hill sekä rumpali Don Powell.
Viihdyttävää itseironiaa
Ennen kaikki oli paremmin, tai ainakin päivän purkkapoppi! Lukuisia listahittejä 70- ja 80-luvulla mestaroinut brittiläinen Slade oli - tulkinnasta riippuen - yksi monista nk. Glam-Rockin edustajista, joiden enemmän ja vähemmän aikaa kestäviä ralleja radio soitti runsaasti 1970-luvun alussa, ja nyttemmin taas uudestaankin, kun Radio Suomen "Entisten nuorten sävellahja" -ohjelma käynnistyi muutama vuosi sitten. The Sweet, Mud, Gary Glitter, Suzi Quatro tai vaikkapa Alvin Stardust ovat monelle tuolloin lapsuuttaan tai nuoruuttaan eläneelle tuttuja nimiä.
Äänekoskella kohta 30 vuotta järjestetty pienisuuri kesäfestivaali Keitelejazz, on löytänyt oman pikantin paikkansa suomalaisessa musiikkitarjonnassa. Konsepti on onnistunut yhdistelmä nostalgiaa ja jazzin kovimpia nimiä, ja tämä kaikki lisäksi hyvin maltillisilla lippuhinnoilla maustettuna!
Kello 21 juhlateltan suojissa käynnistynyt show oli täynnä hikistä tunnelmaa, kiitos etenkin suomalaisen kesäsään mallia 2012, mutta ennen kaikkea hyväntuulisen, töitä paiskovan ja estottoman itseironisen purkkabändin! Kun keikka alkoi kappaleiden We´ll Bring The House Down sekä Take Me Home -potpurilla, se olikin sitten yhtä jytälistaa ykköshittien ja toistensa kanssa kilpaa hymyilevien konkareiden saattelemana.
Illan isäntä ja seremoniamestari oli Dave Hill, joka otti tilanteen ja yleisön haltuunsa heti. Kansa taputti tunnin ja vartin rupeaman alusta loppuun mukana, ja mikä ettei, kun äänenpaine ja soitto oli oivasti kuosissa. Jo kolmantena kuultu Far Far Away laulettiin mukana ja mojova yllätys perään oli nykyisen basisti-viulisti-laulaja John Berryn upea tulkinta Jimmy Lean aikanaan esittämästä balladista Everyday.
Herkistely jätettiin sikseen: Look What You Dun ja bändin aivan ensimmäinen listaykkönen Coz I Luv You viuluosuuksineen riisui vastaanottavan yleisön aseista. Harvoin vuorovaikutus on yhtä spontaania ja luonnollista kuin nyt oli. Brittien ja härmäläisten tajunta tuntuu vain yksinkertaisesti olevan kielimuurista riippumatta hyvin samalla aaltopituudella.
Long Long Way oli hitti 80-luvulla ja yksi kaikkein kovimmista vedoista, Gudbuy T´ Jane sai jo kriitikonkin nieleskelemään tyhjää. Bangin´ Man ja toinen ralli Slayed-levyltä (1972), Mama Weer All Crazee Now!
Juhlateltta pullisteli iloista yhdessäoloa, ja rumpali Don Powell nosti kirjaimellisesti kapuloillaan teltan kattoa ylöspäin. Harmaakettu piti kompin yksinkertaisen jykevänä alusta loppuun asti, ja Hill nautti sooloistaan joka solullaan. Vokalisti-kitaristi Mal McNulty täytti edeltäjänsä Noddy Holderin vaativan tontin ammattimaisen maltillisesti, ja illan kokonaisuus oli huomattavasti parempi kuin mitä olin uskaltanut toivoa.
Kun encoret, jylhänkaunis pullistelu My Oh My sekä Come On Feel The Noize oli saatu soitettua, oli myönnettävä: Toimii kuin se junan vessa!

Slade är ett typiskt nostalgiband: ett par av originalmedlemmarna turnerar med nya spelkamrater och spelar gamla hits för en publik med ganska hög medelålder.
Men Slade har haft fler listlåtar än de flesta av sina sjuttiotalskollegor och kvällen blir riktigt trivsam. Härligt röj i extranumret Cum On Feel The Noize.

Hét heavy metal-festival bij uitstek, het Reading Festival, zocht invallers voor de plots verhinderde band van Ozzy Osbourne. Het om de hoek wonende Slade bood zich aan. Tot grote verbazing van de muziekpers was het publiek vanaf de opkomst van Slade op het podium reeds verkocht, niet alleen uit nostalgie, maar ook door de nieuwe nummers, waarvan We'll bring the house down een Engelse top tien-hit werd.
Vanaf Lock up your daughters in 1981 scoorde de groep ook weer hits in Europa. Zelfs Merry Xmas everybody werd in 1983 opnieuw een hit in Engeland, toen My oh my aldaar nummer 2 stond.
In de VS begon het succes onverwacht toen heavymetalgroep Quiet Riot met hun bewerking van Cum on feel the noize nummer 2 in de Billboard Hot 100 stond. Ook andere hardrockgroepen als het Finse Hanoi Rocks gingen Sladesongs in hun repertoire opnemen. Run runaway werd de eerste Amerikaanse hit voor Slade en behaalde in 1984 de top 20.
De rest van de band speelt en toert nog steeds in het gouwe ouwe-circuit, met name in West-Europa, Scandinavië en Rusland."

Schneeberg. Bereits 18.30 Uhr hatte sich vor den Toren des Filzteiches eine lange Schlange gebildet. Gut ausgerüstet mit Rucksack, Regenschirmen, Sitzkissen und Jacken zogen die Oldiefans Richtung Schneeberg. Das Beste daran: Abgesehen von einem dünnen Jäckchen, das sich die ein oder andere Besucherin über die Schulter legte, brauchten sie nichts von all dem "Rüstzeug".
Mehr als 2000 Gäste kamen letztlich zusammen. Für Gunnar Friedrich, den Geschäftsführer der Stadtwerke Schneeberg, genau die richtige Größe. "Maximal 3000 Besucher. Mehr sollten es auf gar keinen Fall werden, sonst verliert die Feier ihren Charakter", sagt er. Es sei eben kein Open-Air-Konzert im klassischen Sinne, sondern wie der Name verrät und verspricht die Silberstrom- Oldieparty. Daher lässt es sich der Silberstrom-Boss auch nicht nehmen, die Besucher persönlich zu begrüßen. "Das erwarten die Leute."
Während viele Frauen, wie auch Angelika Pohl aus Hartenstein, sich vor allem auf die Lords freuten, konnten es die Männer kaum erwarten, mit Slade abzurocken. "Slade erinnern mich sehr an meine Jugendzeit. Da waren wir auf dem Tanzsaal, einfach super", sagt Armin Pohl. "Wir sind fast immer hier, wenn am Filzteich etwas los ist", so das Ehepaar. Mitten im Getümmel fühlen sie sich am wohlsten. Lachend meint die Hartensteinerin: "Die Kinder sehen uns ja nicht." Auch Katja Päßler aus Lichtenau wollte einfach nur ihren Spaß haben. "Das Gelände ist super, das Ambiente herrlich", meint sie. Gemeinsam mit ihrer Freundin Rosmarie Bartoschik verfolgte sie das Geschehen auf der Bühne jedoch von der Seite aus. "Slade finde ich persönlich besser. Das rockt einfach mehr."
Und die Band enttäuschte nicht. In ihren gewohnt schrillen Outfits rockten Slade in bester Manier. Gleich als dritten Song lieferten sie "Far far away" und hatten spätestens ab dieser Stelle das Publikum voll und ganz hinter sich...""

Bevor jedoch der große Regen kam, fetzte Slade über die Bühne. Und die waren alles andere als "far, far away". Im Gegenteil: Gitarrist Dave Hill und seine Mannen zogen eine Bühnenshow ab, die es wahrlich in sich hatte. Übermütig rockten die Herren über die Bühne, ließen die Hüften kreisen, warfen die Beine hoch und scherzten mit den Fans. Keine Spur davon, dass die Band ihre erfolgreichsten Zeiten eigentlich in den 70er Jahren hatten. Lediglich die früheren Plateauabsätze waren denn doch durch bequemeres Schuhwerk ersetzt worden. Doch die schwarzen Hüte, quasi das Markenzeichen der Band, die waren geblieben, ebenso wie das jugendliche Temperament.
Kurzum – nicht nur die Mama, auch das Publikum war nach wenigen Riffs bereits "All crazee now". Ob "Bangin’ Man" oder "My oh my" – Slade ließ es ordentlich krachen. Da standen nicht nur die Gitarren unter Strom. "Cum on feel the Noize" vom Feinsten eben. Das war einfach Rockmusik, die gute Laune machte."

Die aus der Hitfabrik der zurueckliegenden Jahre, die britische Band Slade war ebenfalls sehr gut. Zwar mehr wie mit guter windiger Nostalgie,aber immer noch echter Rock 'n' Roll. Einer der Originalmitglieder, der Sologitarrist Dave Hill war sehr beeindruckend und er hob das Bein nach wie vor einzigartig. Der Schlagzeuger Don Powell biss sich mti seinem weissen Zahnschutz durch die Show. Der Bassist und Geiger John Berry war genauso glücklich wie seine Bandkameraden. Der Sänger Mal McNulty, welcher die Rhythmus-Gitarre spielte, zeigte sich als eine ausgezeichnete Wahl fuer Noddy Holder. Eine Männerstimme, die ausreichend ist an Rauheit, welche die Sladesongs erfordern. Die Setlist der Band lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen. Dazu gehörten: We`ll bring the house down, Take Me Bak 'Ome, Far Far Away, Everyday, Look Wot You Dun, Coz I Luv You, Run Runaway, Gudbuy T'Jane, Mama Wetter All Crazee Now, Get Down And Get It . Zum Encore gehörte die Ballade My Oh My, sowie das ausgelassene Cum On Feel the Noize. Es fehlten eigentlich nur noch
Skeeze Me Pleeze me und My Friend Stan. Allerdings konnte man auch nicht die so fantastische Coverversion von Slade von Born to Be Wild hören.

Myös takavuosien hittitehdas, brittiyhtye Sladen keikka oli hyvä, joskin enemmänkin hyväntuulisen nostalginen, mutta ehtaa rock´n rollia silti. Alkuperäisjäsenistä soolokitaristi Dave Hill oli vakuuttava ja jalka nousi edelleen mainiosti. Rumpali Don Powell jauhoi purkkaa läpi keikan valkaistuilla hampaillaan.
Basistiviulisti John Berry oli yhtä iloinen veikkonen kuin bändikaverinsakin. Komppikitaristi ja vokalisti Mal McNulty osoitti, että hän on oiva valinta Noddy Holderin korvaajaksi. Miehen äänessä on riittävää karheutta, jota Sladen ehdottomasti biisit vaativat.
Sladen biisillistalta löytyi odotusten mukaisesti mm. We'll Bring the House Down, Take Me Bak 'Ome, Far Far Away, Everyday, Look Wot You Dun, Coz I Luv You, Run Runaway, Gudbuy T'Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Get Down And Get With It sekä encorena kuullut slovari My Oh My sekä riehakas Cum on Feel the Noize. Puuttumaan jäivät oikeastaan vain Skeeze Me, Pleeze Me sekä My Friend Stan, eikä myöskään Sladen mainiota versiota Born to Be Wild -kappaleesta kuultu.

"Yksi teinivuosien suurimmista suosikeista, Slade, pisti festarit Sweden Stagen osalta pakettiin. Mitään ihmeellistä ei ollut lupa odottaa. Mutta ihmeitä tapahtuu, bändi pisti tarjoillen kunnon show’n! Musiikillisia hienouksia (edes Sladen mittakaavassa) etsivä saattoi pettyäkin, mutta itse varustauduin parilla oluella ja änkesin melkein eturiviin katsomaan.
Alkuperäisjäsenet kitaristi Dave Hill ja rumpali Don Powell ovat saaneet tähän Sladen inkarnaatioon pätevät kanssasoittajat. Bassoa, kitaraa, viulua soitti ja väliin liidejäkin lauloi John Berry (ex-Mud). Pääosan vokaaleista, paljon komppikitaraa ja bassot viulubiiseissä hoiti ex-The Sweet Mal McNulty. Pieni piiri siis näiden 70-luvun purkkabändien ympärillä pyörii, mutta pääasiahan on se, että hyville miehille riittää aina töitä. Sitä paitsi kun vyöllä on liki 20 top-10-hittiä pelkästään Britanniassa, ei settiinkään tarvitse soitettavaa hakemalla hakea.
Slade esitti enimmäkseen 70-luvun klassikoita. Lisäksi kuultiin parit kasarihitit sekä viimeisimmän studioalbumin ainoa kelvollinen raita Red Hot. Äijillä oli hyvä hönkä päällä, mutta soitto ei nyt ehka ihan parasta mahdollista ollut. Kyseessä on ennemminkin hyvä bilebändi.
Dave Hill ei ole juuri muuttunut 40 vuodessa. Hiukset ovat harvenneet, mutta väsymättömästi tämä pikkuinen ukkeli viuhtoi lavalla. Stagen etualalla oli pienet korokkeet, joilta niin Hillin kuin muidenkin kelpasi käydä villitsemässä yleisöä.
Omituisten kitaroiden ystäviä Hill ei myöskään pettänyt. En hyvästä tarkkailuasemastani huolimatta hoksannut, mitä eräänkin soittopelin runko kaikessa futuristisuudessaan esitti, mutta otelaudan siniset ledit loistivat hienosti jo pimenneessä illassa. Muutkaan jäsenet eivät mitään puupökkelöitä olleet, joten show oli viihdyttävä kaikessa vauhdikkuudessaan. Mieleen jäi myös Don Powell, joka ei ole vanhentunut ihan niin tyylikkäästi kuin ystävänsä Hill. Äijän harmaantunut kihara tukka ja mielipuolinen virnistys yhdistettynä olan takaa mättämiseen oli miltei pelottavan näköistä. Mutta rokkasi.
Yksi keikan kohokohdista oli tietenkin se, kun Berry antoi bassonsa MacNultylle ja sinkautti viulustaan Run Runawayn alkutahdit. Muutenkin mies näytti hyvällä tavalla rutinoituneelta esiintyjältä, kuten Mal MacNultykin. Noddy Holderin paikkaa on erittäin vaikea täyttää, eikä se nytkään kiitettävästi onnistunut. Tyylikkään solistin Slade on silti MacNultysta saanut. Äänensä oli suurimmaksi osaksi maltillinen raspi, mutta yllättävän kirkkaastikin se tarpeen tullen soi. Sladen riveissä on huomattavan paljon parempia täydennysmiehiä kuin 1990-luvun kokoonpanossa, joka 1990-luvulla Suomeakin kiersi.
Kun Mama Weer All Crazee Now oli ohi, siirryin katsomaan keikkaa vähän kauempaa. En tiedä, olinko liikuttuneessa tilassa vai mitä, mutta Cum on Feel the Noize soi paremmin kuin Quiet Riotilla samoilla festareilla muutama vuosi sitten."
"Girlschool on ilmoittanut, että kiertueiden aika on ohi. Vanhat akat eivät enää kuulemma jaksa. Onneksi jaksamisen puute ei koske yksittäisiä festarivetoja, sillä leidit olivat hyvällä pelipäällä. Hymy oli herkässä ja normaali sarkastinen kettuilu bändikavereille, yleisölle ja itselle oli ainakin Kim McAuliffelle mieluista.
Soitto kulki vanhaan malliin, siis ei mitenkään taidokkaasti mutta jyräten. Girlschoolin tapauksessa Denise Dufortin rummutus oikeastaan kuuluu asiaan. Tanakammalla kompilla musiikista häviäisi jotain perin olennaista.
Girlschool tarjoili pääosin klassista materiaalia, mutta myös viimeisimmältä levyltä kuultiin biisi I Spy. Levyllä kappaleella vierailee itse Ronnie James Dio, jota siis päästiin pitemmittä aasinsilloitta muistelemaan, kuten myös viitisen vuotta sitten edesmennyttä Girlschool-kepittäjä Kelly Johnsonia. Eipä tuo I Spy oikein Screaming Blue Murderin ja Emergencyn lomassa pärjännyt. Jumalan kiitos, että uudet biisit jäivät vähiin."
Glamrockbandet Slade var ikke glemt. 40 år etter sin glansperiode fikk publikum et nostalgisk gjenhør med sine gamle idoler. Nyheten om at det en gang verdensberømte bandet skulle gjeste den lille puben var nesten utrolig.
The Volk's Mann from the Weimarer Republic did it again, hit the road with Volvo and travelled some hundred kilometers to see Slade in Schopfloch on Friday 15th June 2012, and astonished other fans with pics from Brighton with Noddy. We say a big thank to Volker for concert photos from Schopfloch!

"Süffiger Partyspaß: Beim Braustolzfest am Wochenende rockte und schunkelte die Kappler Bühne. Zum 21. Mal feierte das Traditionsbrauhaus mit Chemnitz und hatte für seine 12.000 Gäste einige Höhepunkte zu bieten: anstoßen mit Freunden, Körbe versenken, Schnelligkeit beweisen.
... Gemütlich und im Trockenen (unter der Überdachung) begingen die Festbesucher den Sonntag. Zur Musik der Hartmannsdorfer Schalmeien und von Ecke Bauer schunkelten die Massen. Am Nachmittag standen die britischen Glam-Rocker Slade auf dem Programm. (cka)"

Friedberg (hau). Was für ein Abend: Aus den Boxen im Festzelt auf der Seewiese wummern Beats und Bässe, 4900 Fans sind hin und weg. Dicht an dicht wippen sie vor der Bühne im Takt, schwenken die Arme und singen selig »Love is like oxygen«. The Sweet, Slade, Hot Chocolate und Night Fever heizen den Besuchern ein.
Papas tragen Kinder auf den Schultern, einer hat seine Großen zum Geburtstag ins Festzelt eingeladen. Weiter hinten lagern Leute auf einer Picknickdecke oder tanzen. »Zwischen 8 und 80 sind sie alle da«, ist Andreas Matlé von der Ovag zufrieden. Die Stimmung spreche für sich, meint der Organisator der Party zum 100. Geburtstag seines Arbeitgebers. Derweil pendeln die Konzertbesucher je nach Sauerstoffbedarf, Hunger oder Durst zwischen Zelt, grüner Wiese und Grillstation. Zu vorgerückter Stunde löst ein fast voller Mond die Sonnenglut ab und taucht die Szenerie in romantisches Licht. »Die schönste Festwiese der Wetterau«, sagt ein stolzer Bürgermeister Michael Keller. ... Enthusiastisch empfing das Publikum die Bands. Slade war kurzfristig für Middle of the Road eingesprungen. Als Männer der ersten Bandstunde wurden der strahlende Don Powell mit wehender Mähne und harten Beats an den Drums und Leadgitarrist Dave Hill gefeiert, prächtig ergänzt um Sänger und Gitarrist Mal McNulty. Schuhe sagen eine Menge über die Persönlichkeit aus: Slade-Gitarrist Dave Hill kam in festen Schnürstiefeln. Ein Arbeiter vorne auf der Bühne, jede Sekunde in Bewegung - und er schwitzte nicht mal dabei...
Die Oldies-Night, die die OVAG am Samstag auf die Beine gestellt hatte, war ein voller Erfolg. Anlass war der 100. Geburtstag des Energieversorgers. 3500 Gäste goutierten das Familienprogramm rund ums Zelt auf der Seewiese, 2500 Besucher kamen zum Tag der offenen Tür „Bei der Warth“ - und 4900 waren beim Konzert mit von der Partie. Slade, The Sweet, Hot Chocolate und Night Fever („The very Best of Bee Gees“) ließen es krachen.
Hinter dem Gitter, das den Gang zwischen Bühne und Publikum abtrennte, drängten sich die Fans. Aus jeder Formation waren Gesichter dabei, die sie noch von früher kannten: Bei Slade sind es Dave Hill und Drummer Don Powell, ...Slade-Sänger Mal McNulty etwa hat eine ähnlich raue Röhre wie Noddy Holder, der zusammen mit Hill 1964 die Band gründete. „Far far away“, „Coz I luv you“ und „Cum on feel the noize“: Kaum verklang ein Hit, wummerte bereits der nächste los.
Nach diesem Auftritt war man als Zuhörer im Grunde schon restlos beeindruckt. Doch das war erst der Anfang. Slade hatten die Rolle des Einheizers übernommen, was zunächst nicht so vorgesehen war. Diesen Part sollte die regionale Band Me too übernehmen..."
Überhaupt nicht in die Jahre gekommen ist die Rocklegende Slade.
Bisingen. Die Kult-Bands Sweet, Slade, und Danny McCoy heizten am Samstagabend ihrem Publikum in der Hohenzollernhalle ein. Mit Welthits aus den 70er und 80er Jahren imponierten sie dem Publikum und zeigten, dass sie keinesfalls in die Jahre gekommen sind.
"Hohenzollern rockt" – so der Titel der Veranstaltung – machte seinem Namen alle Ehre.

Nach einer kurzen Umbau-Pause traten als letzter Top-Act die Mitglieder von Slade auf die Bühne. Die Hardrockband aus Wolverhampton im englischen Midlands versetzte das Publikum völlig in Ekstatse. Gitarrist Dave Hill und Schlagzeuger Don Powell, die beide seit der Gründung Mitglieder der Band sind, vermittelten dem Publikum den Eindruck, dass sie seit 1966 keinen Tag gealtert sind.
Publikum ist nicht mehr zu bremsen
Zusammen mit Mal McNulty am Mikrophon und John Berry am Bass waren sie insgesamt rockiger und lauter als die vorangehenden Bands. Im Vergleich dazu klang die Darbietung von "The Sweet" melodischer. Ständig forderten sie das Publikum zum Mitmachen auf, was die auch mit lautem Gegröle und Klatschen machten. Nach vier Stunden Zeitreise zur besten Rockmusik der 70er-Jahre verlies das Publikum zufrieden die Hohenzollernhalle.
Ein Teil des Erlöses geht an den Bisinger Hilfsfonds für die vierköpfige Familie, die beim Brand in Steinhofen Hab und Gut verloren hat, sowie an die Prinzessin-Kira-von-Preußen-Stiftung, die sich um Kinder und Jugendliche aus sozial schwachen Verhältnissen kümmert."

1000 Besucher bei Slade, Sweet und ELO im Kongress am Park
Kaum eröffnet, trumpfte die renovierte Kongresshalle mit einem fünfstündigen Konzert gestandener Rockmusiker auf. Slade, Sweet und das Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) sorgten für hohen Besucherandrang bei der ersten Classic-Rock-Night, die mit nostalgischen Songs ausgelassene Stimmung erzeugte.
Was die drei Rockgiganten von ehedem gemein hatten, war die reduzierte Originalbesetzung. Bei Slade waren es vom ursprünglichen Quartett noch Gitarrist Dave Hill und Drummer Don Powell, bei Sweet war es nur noch der Gitarrist Andy Scott, und das Electric Light Orchestra Klassik ist eine nachträgliche Gründung von Gitarrist Phil Bates, der nie in der ursprünglichen Band gespielt hat. Was die Gruppen einte, war die Musik. Sie rockten authentisch, ja, sie schwelgten in der Erinnerung an die gute alte Zeit.
Druckvoller Groove, geistreiche Songs
Laut, hart und knackig eröffnete Slade den langen Abend. Die Glamrocker zeigten, dass sie noch lange nicht zum alten Eisen gehören. Hits wie „Far Far Away“, „Cum On Feel The Noiz“ oder „My Oh My“ mischten sie mit unbekannteren Songs aus den 90ern und lieferten einen großartigen Startschuss für die erste Classic-Rock-Night..."

Crailsheim. Ganz im Zeichen des Glam-Rock stand am Freitagabend die Rock Classics Night in der Ingersheimer Festhalle. Wie auch immer man zu diesen Dinosauriern des Rock steht: Das Publikum war zufrieden.
Nachdem Danny Mc Coy, einst Sänger einer Nachfolgegruppierung der Band "T-Rex" dem Publikum in der gut gefüllten Festhalle mit Titeln wie "I Love Boogie" sauber eingeheizt hatte, konnte "Slade", eine andere Band der frühen 1970er-Jahre auf der bereits vorgeglühten Stimmung aufbauen: "We"ll Bring The House Down" hieß der programmatische Einsteiger.
Das war bei diesen Rocksenioren kein so ganz großes Kunststück, denn nicht nur, dass sie enorme Bühnenpräsenz zeigten. Sie hatten etwa mit "Far, Far Away" in den 70ern durchaus auch den Bereich bedient, den man als Britpop bezeichnen könnte. Da lässt es sich fast jedes Publikum grundsätzlich nicht nehmen, lautstark und in der Melodie schwelgend mitzusingen - wie es auch in Ingersheim nicht anders zu erleben war.
Immerhin hatte "Slade" als einzige Gruppe des Abends auch noch zwei Gründungsmitglieder in seinen Reihen: Gitarrist Dave Hill und Drummer Don Powell, beide Jahrgang 1946. Dafür waren sie ausgesprochen agil und hatten sichtlich Spaß daran, mit ihren Fans von der Bühne herunter musikalisch zu kommunizieren.
Powell lieferte neben langen, von einem Ventilator aufgewirbelten Haaren und einem Boxer-Zahnschutz exakt gehämmerte Beats, über die Hill wunderbar seine verzerrten Gitarrensounds legen konnte. Der seit 2003 mitspielende John Berry legte mit seiner Bassgitarre ein sonores Fundament, während Mal McNulty mit seiner aufgerauten Stimme mehr als einmal hohe Schlusstöne kreischen konnte.
Bereits am Ende des Gigs von "Slade" blickte man in verzückt-selige Gesichter von Rock-Fans, die meist über 50 Jahre alt, grauhaarig, aber noch ausgesprochen beweglich erschienen, wenn sie in die Hände klatschten und dazu hüpften. Hier und da glaubte man außerdem, kleine Familienausflüge verzeichnen zu können. Ältere Ladys mit engen Jeans und Lederweste waren ebenso zu verzeichnen wie Rest-Vokuhilas oder durch Dauerwellen geprägte lange Haare zu Schlaghosen. Headbanger wurden allerdings vermisst.

Am 5. Mai in der Hohenzollernhalle toben Sweet und Stade über die Bühne"Hohenzollern rockt" lautet das Motto am 5. Mai in der Bisinger Hohenzollernhalle, wenn die Glam-Rock-Legenden Slade und Sweet auftreten. Da werden so manche Erinnerungen wach.
Bisingen. Bisingens Bügermeister Joachim Krüger (gelernter Verwaltungsfachwirt), Veranstalter Willi Wrede (gelernter Sparkassenbertiebswirt) haben da natürlich einiges gemeinsam: gleicher Jahrgang, gleiche Musikvorlieben und gemeinsam haben sie viel Spaß an musikalischen Veranstaltungen.
In einem kleinen persönlichen Steckbrief haben wir da einiges interessantes herausfinden können.
Was war Ihr erstes Album?
WILLI WREDE: T Rex- Electric Wariier.
JOACHIM KRÜGER: Ein Sampler mit Titeln unter anderem von The Rubettes, Status Quo, Slade, Nazareth, Bachmann-Turner-Overdrive und 10 CC.
Was war die erste Single?
WREDE: "Mama we all crazy now" von Slade. . . komisch ist es machmal, damals war ich Teenie und Fan - heute sind Don Powell und Dave Hill von Salde im Musikgeschäft meine besten Kumpels.
KRÜGER: "48 Crash" von Suzi Quatro.
Erste musikalische große Liebe?
WREDE: Suzi Quatro, heute die Ehefrau eines guten Hamburger Kollegen.
KRÜGER: Für die "Liebe" war ich damals schlicht zu jung. . . Musikalisch waren aber Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow ein erstes Highlight. Ich hab damals alle Alben gekauft.
Welche Musik hören Sie heute?
WREDE: Ich höre gerne alles von den Eagles ("New York Minute"), Whitesnake ("Here I go again") und Queen. Es muss rocken, Plastikmusik hat in meinem Leben keinen Platz. Es muss authentisch sein und live-reproduzierbar. Wer schon mal bei einem AC/DC-Konzert war, der weiß, was ich meine...
Kaum zu glauben, aber wahr: die britischen Glam-Rock-Legenden SWEET & SLADE kommen gleich im Doppelpack in unsere Region, nach Bisingen, in die Hohenzollernhalle. Teilweise noch in Originalbesetzung werden Sie Hits wie BALLROOM BLITZ, LITTLE WILLIE, WIG WAM BAM, LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN , MAMA WE ALL CRAZY NOW, FAR FAR AWAY, CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE und viele weitere Hits ihrer legendären Zeit live auf der Bühne präsentieren. Zusammen haben Sie über 30 Mio. Tonträger weltweit unter ihre Fans gebracht.
Lassen Sie sich zurück in die Zeit der TV-Show DISCO mit Ilja Richter versetzen. Licht aus, Spot an. Damals saßen wir alle vor dem Fernseher und haben als Fans unsere Helden verehrt. Nun sind sie in Bisingen und hautnah und für uns alle, live zu erleben.
Abgerundet wird das Programm durch dem Ex-Mitglied von T-REX Danny Maccoy im Vorprogramm.
Ausserdem dient diese Veranstaltung noch einem guten Zweck: Ein Teil der Erlöse werden vom Veranstalter an eine noch zu bennende Einrichtung gespendet.

Musiklegenden "Sweet" und "Slade" rocken in Bisingen
Als die einzig wahren Glam-Rock-Legenden füllen sie locker große Hallen, am 5. Mai in Bisingen geben "Sweet" und "Slade" ein feines, fast schon hautnahes Konzert in der Bisinger Hohenzollernhalle.
Bisingen. Vier Stunden Live-Show, mit "Sweet" und "Slade" zwei Mega-Bands auf der Bühne, dazu noch die frühere Stimme von T. Rex, Danny Mccoy, und dies alles in einer Halle, bei der selbst bei Fans in der hinteresten Reihe noch das gefühl aufkommen wird, am Bühnengeschehen hautnah dabei zu sein —es ist schon etwas Besonderes, was da am 5. Mai in der Bisinger Hohenzollernhalle geboten wird.
Die Idee zu dieser exklusiven "Club-Show" kam spontan, Veranstalter Willi Wrede und Bisingens Bürgermeister Joachim Krüger aber waren sich sofort einig: "Das machen wir."Weil aber wer feiern, auch noch etwas Gutes leisten kann, geht ein Teil des Konzerterlöses an den von der Gemeinde Bisingen eingerichteten Hilfsfond für die Familie, die bei einem Brand in der Steinhofener Lenaustraße ihr Hab und Gut verloren hat, und an die Prinzessin-Kira-von-Preußen-Stifung, die sich um Kinder und Jugendliche aus sozial schwachen Verhältnissen kümmert.
Classic rock night in Dresden Kulturpalast on 17th March 2012 was cancelled due to Sweet running away down under. Anyway the core group of the German fans had a meeting at the weekend in Dresden, represented: Böblingen, Mönchengladbach, Weimar and Helsinki (Finland).
