ALMOST SLAYED singer - Danny`s note- perfect Noddy Holder turn

THE SWEET FEATURING ANDY SCOTT

 With ALMOST SLAYED

THE REGAL THEATRE, SUBIACO 10TH MARCH 2012

Words by Shane Pinnegar

Andy Scott’s Sweet are back in Perth for the second time in just under a year, and this time they have new album “New York Connection” under their arm and ready to share.

First up, local tribute act ALMOST SLAYED take their places decked out in 70’s Slade costumes, and had the enthusiastic crowd in their hands immediately due in no small part to energetic renditions of these glam classics, a dynamic stage presence and singer Danny’s note-perfect Noddy Holder turn.

On Saturday, 10th March, 2012 "ALMOST SLAYED"

On Saturday, 10th March, 2012 "ALMOST SLAYED"

played to over 1,000 people at The Regal Theatre, Subiaco, Western Australia as opening act for THE SWEET in concert.

The whole evening was memorable. The audience cheered as ALMOST SLAYED took to the stage at 8pm and went straight into "Gudbuy t’Jane". The crowd went wild after just the first song. Danny got them all clapping their hands in time as he broke into "Coz I Luv You". The rest of the set went off just as well as it started, and by the time they finished on "Get Down & Get With It" the whole theatre was stamping their feet and joining in as Danny involved the audience. When that last song finished, the crowd was yelling for more, but as ALMOST SLAYED were only given a restricted time in which to play, they were signaled at the end of the song that they must finish, to leave time to get the stage ready for THE SWEET. So ALMOST SLAYED left the audience wanting more.

When THE SWEET came on they were superb and played a fantastic show. All in all it was a night to remember. THE SWEET told Danny they were very impressed with his vocals. He was so pleased to receive this compliment from them as all of their band have terrific vocals. Danny, Carol, Joe, Lea and Jonny from ALMOST SLAYED were honoured to play on the same stage as such a famous and incredible band.

STATOZ QUO with ALMOST SLAYED

STATOZ QUO with ALMOST SLAYED
Saturday 29 October, 2011
Boulevard Tavern, Joondalup

By Shane Pinnegar

Who’s seen the movie “Slade In Flame”? The pop glamsters are on a tiny stage in a grubby club, belting out the kind of raw 60’s/70’s R&B that makes a mockery of their reputation as bubblegum band, as they win the rough crowd over.

Sat night at Joondalup’s Boulevard Tavern was a very similar scene – right down to the mirrored top hat and stack heeled glitter boots. The main difference of course was the Black Label Society and Foo Fighters t-shirts sported by the crowd, and that in itself is testament to Slade’s enduring legacy.

Almost Slayed delivered a visual and audio feast – rough, raw and ready, and singer Danny does the most remarkable Noddy Holder impersonation this reviewer has ever heard!

They ripped through ‘Cum On Feeel The Noize’, ‘Far Far Away’, “The Slade Alive” version of John Sebastian’s ‘Darling Be Home Soon’ (a favourite of mine I must admit), ‘My Friend Sam’ and of course ‘Mama We’re All Crazee Now’, as well as many more classics, all rendered lovingly and loudly, finishing with a seasonally early ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ and a raucous ‘Get Down n Get With It’.
